Based on the new Passat Estate, the new Passat Alltrack impresses with an independent off-road look, 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive and highly advanced technologies. The updated version confidently handles rough terrain, on the one hand, while simultaneously providing excellent cruising comfort \u2013 thanks to the driving profile selector and DCC adaptive chassis control.\n\n\nThe Passat Alltrack is an independent model within the model series. This can be seen in exterior features such as the modified bumpers (with underbody guard in stainless-steel look), rugged wheel arch and side sill moulding covers in \"Anthracite\" and sill extensions. Its 27.5 mm higher ground clearance also makes it ready for any driving situation. Anodised silver roof rails, \"Alltrack\" badges on the radiator grille and tailgate, and custom 17-inch alloy wheels (18- and 19-inch wheel options available) upgrade this Estate even more.\n\nAt the same time, the Passat Alltrack scores with state-of-the-art technology. Thanks to its special Offroad driving programme with suitably modified assistance systems, modified chassis and the alliance of EDS (electronic differential lock), XDS+ and 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive, it is the perfect all-round vehicle for both the on-road and off-road worlds. In addition, the Passat Alltrack is an ideal towing vehicle. A towing load of 2,200 kg (braked) can be hitched to it on a twelve per cent gradient (exception: 110 kW \/150 PS TSI has towing capacity of 1,800 kg).\n\nIn addition, the Passat Alltrack can be fitted with an exceptionally large range of driver assistance and infotainment systems. They include an Active Info Display (fully digital instruments), head-up display (for projecting information), Media Control rear seat entertainment system for tablet computers, Front Assist (lane-changing assistant), Emergency Assist (stops vehicle in emergency), Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Traffic Alert (detects vehicles in cross-traffic when backing out of parking spaces) and Trailer Assist (for assisted manoeuvring with a trailer).\n\nThe theme of infotainment also assumes a high priority in the Passat Alltrack. A total of five radio and radio-navigation units are available for the Passat Alltrack, which enable a maximum degree of connectivity. The various interfaces include connecting to smartphones via App Connect. App Connect consists of applications like Mirror LinkTM, Car Play (Apple) and Android Auto (Google), which permit integration of nearly all smartphones and an enormous bandwidth of apps.\n\nVolkswagen is offering a total of five new direct fuel injection engines for the new Passat Alltrack: The powerful petrol turbocharged engines (TSI) produce 110 kW \/ 150 PS and 162 kW \/ 220 PS. The range of the torque-strong turbo-diesels (TDI) begins at 110 kW \/ 150 PS. The next higher power levels are 140 kW \/ 190 PS and 176 kW \/ 240 PS. They all conform to the Euro-6 emissions standard. In addition, the new Passat will also be the first brand model worldwide with a capacitive steering wheel. This detects touch by the driver, providing an interactive interface to systems such as Travel Assist. Another new feature in the Passat is \u201cEmergency Steering Assist\u201d, which increases safety when performing evasive manoeuvres by means of braking interventions. The new, interactive \u201cIQ.LIGHT \u2013 LED matrix headlights\u201d turn night into day \u2013 this is an innovative light technology that has been exclusively available for the current Touareg so far.\n\nThe third generation of the Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB3) also has its debut alongside the new Passat. App Connect \u2013 the interface for integrating smartphone apps \u2013 therefore offers wireless integration of iPhone apps via Apple CarPlay\u2122 for the first time at Volkswagen. If desired, the Passat can from now on be permanently online via MIB3, because the new Infotainment systems come with an integrated SIM card as standard. As well as improved navigation-related services with real-time information, this encompasses new technologies and offers, music streaming services, Internet radio, natural (online-based) voice control, seamless use of \u201cVolkswagen We\u201d online services and future cloud-based portable vehicle settings. It will also be possible to use the first smartphones as a \u201cmobile key\u201d for opening and starting the Passat.\n\n\nThe MIB3 is closely integrated with the new Digital Cockpit. The digital instruments have been considerably enhanced compared to the previous system (Active Info Display). The enhanced high-contrast graphics display is clear and high-quality. The range of functions has been lifted to a whole new level. Three different display configurations can now be customised via the new multifunction steering wheel with just one button.\n\nThe drive range has also been enhanced. A perfect example of this is the Passat GTE) \u2013 the plug-in hybrid model in the model line: It will have a considerably extended electric range. This is now up to approximately 55 km) in the new WLTP cycle, corresponding to around 70 km) according to the NEDC. At the same time, the combination of the electric motor and turbocharged engine (160 kW \/ 218 PS system power) means the Passat GTE provides the benefits of a comfortable, safe long-distance vehicle. The Passat GTE already achieves the limits set out in the Euro 6d emission standard, which applies to new vehicles from 2021. All other TSI and TDI units fulfil the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. In addition, every new Passat \u2013 whether a petrol or diesel engine \u2013 is equipped with a particulate filter.\n\nProduction record for the debut of the new Passat: the bestseller will pass the 30 million mark this spring. This makes it the most successful mid-size model worldwide. One thing is certain: the 30 millionth Passat will come from the progressively enhanced 8th generation. A major technical update \u2013 a Passat that incorporates the latest brand innovations. The new Passat will make its trade fair debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Pre-sales will start in the first countries in May. The most drastic change is probably the rear end revision to make it look more Arteon than Jetta. However aside from that it's still the same unoffensive midsize sedan we've come to know and...well know.  I'm giving this new Passat a hard time, but the truth of the matter is that it's a perfectly proficient vehicle and offers some of the most interior space and is one of the most comfortable family car on the market.
